After 10km I rewarded myself with a muesli bar for being such a good bike builder. It ran like a charm.
Sadly the coast is like all tourist coasts (Surfers Paradise being among the worst) so I decided to take the highway (but not the tollway). My iPhone GPS turned out to be a handy asset here and there.
After Pego the road started to climb steeply and was clearly a favourite among the cycle groups, most of whom oddly seemed to be women. The scenery in this area is spectacular and to my eye former coral reef – a terrain I know well. The last kilometre of my non stop 90km trip was in ‘granny gear’ all the way.
